Mismanaged MINORS? MAJOR Implications!

Mismanaged MINORS? MAJOR Implications!

Our ever-creative PEM registrars came up with some teaching cards using medicolegal and patient outcomes to highlight the implication that mismanaged minors cases can have on the children we see.

We have produced a set of 10 cards/10 cases that have been cross-checked by consultants from Emergency Medicine, Sports Medicine, and Paediatric Orthopaedics.

Just click the download button to get your free printable PDF copy! We find they work great as a set of wipeable A5-sized laminated cards to keep on the shop floor for some impromptu teaching when things aren't so busy! 🙂

For medical educators, we have an editable FOAMped template that you can use to write your own case examples (requires a Google account). Below is a short description of how each section is structured:

The Patient Scenario

Brief introduction and description of a case, key history, and examination findings.

The Management

Summary of investigations performed and management decisions made during the original patient visit.

The Patient Journey

What happened to the patient afterwards – included repeated visits, further tests, diagnosis, concerns of family, time off school, etc.

What would you do differently?

This is a chance to PAUSE and allow trainees to discuss how they would have managed the scenario.

The Medicolegal Outcome

What happened in the original case. We find MPS casebooks or other medicolegal sources are useful. Trainees can then consider why the complaint was made.

Replaying the Scenario

A retelling of the original story – including important changes which would have altered the outcome. If you are making your own examples, try and incorporate references to departmental or national guidelines. Add images if needed.
