"You are in Resus and a gentleman has been brought in from assessment looking jaundiced and febrile at 38.6°C."

"Mrs H. is a 40 year old woman who presents to the ED with acute abdominal pain. The pain is of a colicky nature and central. She states the pain occasionally goes into her back."

Please describe/define each of the following terms...

"A 30 year old man is brought into Resus having had a fight with his partner, who boiled a kettle and threw the contents over his chest.The reg is busy and it is up to you to manage the case. You feel he has a 15% burn covering his chest and left arm."

"An 86 year old lady attends your ED for the fourth time this year, having fallen at home. She remembers getting up from her chair and ending up on the floor. She has not injured herself but was unable to get back up off of the floor"

"A 62 year old gentleman has come to your department. This morning his wife noticed he had slurring of his speech ad he reports his right arm feeling heavy and weak. This lasted for around an hour and has now completely resolved."

"A 54 year old driver was involved in a rear shunt RTC at approx 40 mph. The primary survey has revealed no immediate life threatening injuries and all observations are normal."

"A male student has been brought in by ambulance on a Saturday night, he has been out drinking and got into a fight. He has obvious evidence of an external head injury."

A 28 year old woman is brought into Resus having taken some tablets. She has been seen in the department with multiple overdoses in the past and is known to have depression.

A 70 year old gentleman was brought by his family to the ED, he has taken an overdose of his own medications (antihypertensives, metformin, aspirin). He states he is fed up with his life...

"You have just started your late shift in Resus and have taken handover. One of the patients is Mr Young a 79 year old man who came in with sudden headache and falling GCS, sadly a CT confirmed a large intracerebral bleed that appears unsurvivable."

"A 25 year old lady has returned from her holiday in Australia, she too has become short of breath. She also has noticed some pains in her calf and now she has a stabbing pain in the left of her chest, worse every time she breathes in. She also takes the OCP."

"You are just starting in Resus and take a handover for what sounds like a rather interesting trauma case in bay 3. You are asked to do the secondary survey."
